Karen and Chris's Wedding
Reflection:
This was my first time shooting a wedding in a professional capacity, and I felt a mix of nerves and excitement going into the day. I wanted to provide an excellent service to the couple and ensure I captured their day in a way that felt meaningful, authentic, and true to their experience.
I was responsible for photography following the main ceremony. Having marketed myself as a candid photographer, I wanted to stay true to that approach by observing and capturing natural moments rather than staging large, posed shots. The couple had also specifically requested a candid style, which aligned perfectly with how I like to work. This allowed me to focus on genuine interactions, emotions, and small details that might otherwise go unnoticed, helping to tell a more honest story of the day.
I found the experience incredibly rewarding. Being surrounded by people celebrating such an important moment created a great atmosphere, and capturing those moments of joy and connection was something I really enjoyed. However, working alone also came with its challenges. I wasn’t able to capture any behind-the-scenes content, as my full attention needed to be on the event itself. Trying to be everywhere at once and anticipate key moments was at times quite stressful, as I didn’t want to miss anything important.
The editing process was one of the most demanding parts of the project. Over the 8 hours I was present, I captured more than 1,500 images. Each photo needed to be reviewed, sorted, and carefully selected before editing. I eventually narrowed this down to around 150 final images. Although time-consuming, this process was also very rewarding, as it allowed me to relive the day and refine the final story I was delivering to the couple.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and both the couple and I were very happy with the outcome. In addition to the digital gallery, I also created a high-quality wedding book for them, which they were especially pleased with. This project gave me valuable insight into wedding photography and strengthened my confidence in working independently on important events.
